No Tax Tuesday 4 26 11 Edition

Happy No Tax Tuesday to one and all!

I gave my children some money the other day and it was interesting to see what they did with it. They wanted to go spend it! ASAP! My son wanted to go to Toys R Us and my daughter to the mall. It's funny how easy it is to spend "free" money.

A few years ago someone I knew was on welfare and they bought a TV. I told a friend of mine that that bothered me. My friend thought that even people on welfare should be able to have a TV. Really? Welfare money spent on TVs?

I grew up in a culture, which I believe was the culture our country was founded upon, that says, "If a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat." When I (and my brother, sisters and cousins) where 16 we were told, "You pay for your own clothes now. If you want to go somewhere, you may, if you pay with your own money." So, at the age of 16 if we wanted new clothes or to go somewhere we got a job, earned money and began to become independent. We were taught that welfare was only for those who could not work and we should never burden others with our problems. So, when I see someone on welfare who could work spending money, my money via taxes, like for a TV, I have an issue with that. 

Taxes extracted from those who work should be for those who can not work. One reason I despise the liberal ideal of the redistribution of wealth is simple. Why should I have less for my family? Why is someone who does not work  entitled to what I must work for?  

Taxes for TVs? No. Get a job and buy your own.

A Few Things Conservative

I am not terribly happy with the Republican party. As a conservative, I tend to vote Republican. But, I am not pleased with many politicians who call themselves Republicans. My issue is not because they the Republican Party is not left enough or more "moderate" or "center." My issue is that the Party seems to respond more to the propaganda and foolishness spewed from the left. If I wanted to be more of a liberal  or progressive (an oxymoron if there ever was one) I would simply join the Democratic party. 

Let me get a few things straight. First of all as a conservative, my rights and your individual rights are of supreme importance. This country was founded on the ideal, which is equally true and meaningful today as it was in the 1700's, each person has the unalienable right to live their life without (or as little as possible) government interference. 

The fruit of my labor is the fruit of my labor, not yours. The fruit of your labor is the fruit of your labor, not mine. In other words, my money is not your money and your money is not my money. Neither is our money the governments money. I do not believe that any individual or government is endowed with the wisdom and benevolence to decide who deserves what. .History has only demonstrated how evil individuals and governments are when given power. If the idea that governments were by nature helpful and just then the United States of America would not have come to be.

To me government is like a gun. A gun can be useful for certain situations, like self-defense and hunting, but in the wrong hands they can do a lot of damage. That is why an individuals rights to his or her own money is so important. Think about Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Welfare. They all sound like nice humane ideals but, they now enslave us. And our elected officials deceive us by borrowing from the money we the people have been forced to "invest" in these scams. So, there is not actual cash, just IOU's in the form of bonds or notes, whatever.

My concern, as a conservative, is that my elected officials are playing god with my money, and your money. they don't earn it, we do. They use these programs as means to buy votes and stay in power. And what are we, as the people getting out of our so called "investments?" Debt and more taxes. 

Hold on to your wallets, California!

Well, here we go. Governor Jerry Brown. The man without a plan begins to unveil his plan upon us all. I don't know about the smoke and mirrors but what I heard heir Governor say was not all that hopeful. 

He apparently thinks it will take honesty to tell us all we, as a state and individuals are out of luck. The question of how much we are overspending and supplementing and how "honest" Governor Brown is will let me know how serious he is about rising above HIS ideology. The fact that he brings up new taxes at all tells me he still just a tax and spend liberal.

I seem to recall that during his campaign he mentioned something about living within our means. For me that means that if I don't have the cash, whatever it is I would like to do or purchase (even if it's for my children), it is a big no can do until I have the cash. The problem with politicians, and if Jerry Brown is anything, he's a politician, is that they live off other peoples money. Jerry keeps bringing up the "No new taxes without peoples approval" mantra. That means he will take this year to demonstrate that "he" can't fix the budget by not cutting entitlement programs (because then who will vote for him). Then he will tell us we must raise more money = taxes. There will be (for himself) no other way around it. Californians will be shoveled propaganda about how we need to "sacrifice" and "invest". Never mind that all the investments of the past has proved to be stupid money foolishly spent. Investments produce something. What have the investments of our political leaders been producing? The product so far has been over 1,200,000 Californians have lost their jobs since 2005!

I call on Jerry Brown to take all talk of raising taxes off the table. I call on Jerry Brown to ask the unions that financed his campaign to take the lead in honesty and sacrifice. I call on Jerry Brown to ask the real hard questions like, "How long can California support those who do not work?" I am not talking about people who can not work. Forget the "everybody deserves" stuff. I call on Jerry Brown to ask the real questions about his beloved entitlement programs.

OK Jerry Brown, I am listening and watching. 

No Tax Tuesday: Teachers on the Dole

Happy No Tax Tuesday to you all! I started out this Tuesday edition on a thought that it would be great to give the average and non-average citizen a break by having a "No Tax Tuesday." It has no evolved into a weekly rant about taxes. I am not sure if anyone is really paying attention or agrees, but, it makes me feel better. 

This week I would like to take aim at the misuse and abuse of our tax dollars by school districts. Unions and Democrats love to use the term, "saving jobs" for instance, "saving hundreds of teachers jobs." Well, how is that done?

I work at a middle school and we have two "pool teachers" at our site. That is more than $100k a year. What do these teachers do? First of all they receive a regular teachers' paycheck. They do not teach a class. They do not lower the student to teacher ratio. They do fill in for teachers who might be ill or who are attending a meeting or participating in an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meeting.  

I do not have anything personally against these people, they are just trying to make a living. But, if their is not enough students to form a class for them to teach what is their purpose? Isn't this kind of a no brainer? To put it simply if you have 90 students with a 30:1 ratio you need 3 teachers. You do not need 4. When the district holds more teachers than they need that only means that the district spending more than it should!

So, in the end, it is misused tax dollars. Teacher on the dole is an expensive form of welfare that we can not afford.

Fiorina's Opportunity vs Boxer Dependence

One of the great ideals our country holds dear is independence. We broke free from England . The American dream of succeeding on your own terms, live and let live, own your own home. I think that this ideal of independence is at the heart of much of the political debate and voting choices offered this year. 

I woke up this morning and read that "Fiorina says she wants others to be able to rise to success." That got me to thinking. Opportunity is different than dependence. Opportunity is independence and a government bailout or program is dependence. Independence is freedom, while dependence is servitude. Isn't that what we are being asked to vote on? Do I want a candidate and a government that seeks to free me or make me dependent? 

One candidate, Fiorina, believes that the government makes the American dream too hard for too many  people. The other candidate, Boxer, believes the government needs to do more to "help those people out." Boxer voted for and still believes in the Obama bail out. Fiorina  is against the bailout. 

The Obama bailout that Barbara Boxer still backs helped big business, banks and car makers, not the American people. We, as American tax payers will be enslaved to that debt for the rest of our lives and will pass it on to our children just as the last government ponzi-scheme (Social-Security) has been passed down to us. Is that freedom? Not in my book!

Fiorina understands that California and the United States needs freedom from government shackles, not more.   Let me end with this thought. As compassionate and humanistic as welfare sounds, is it? Do people on welfare stay on welfare or move on to success? I have worked with students and families from LA projects for over 20 years, and the projects are living testaments that the welfare system only serves to keep down those it professes to help.

So, do you want freedom or government dependence? Vote for freedom.  Vote for Carly Fiorina!
