Living Vicariously Through Your Kids

One of the great experiences of being a parent is living your life through your children. Doing things “with” them the things you never did when you were a kid can be quite fulfilling. For me, scouting has been that for me.

Not only do I get to spend quality time with my son and watch him learn a lot of great lessons about life, but I get to “help” him with almost everything. (Yea, I know that pretty soon he’ll want to do it all by himself.) But, I was sucker punched into being the cub master so; now I get to wear one of the cool shirts!

Recently, our pack held the annual pine wood derby. My son won! I am proud to say that HE did do most of the work. The best part was that most of the other dads are engineers (I am in education). I heard a few “nice work man” from them. Sour grapes.

Good job son. Thus saith me

I am a Laker Homer

OK, I am a homer. I was born a Laker fan and I will die a Laker fan.

Joey Crawford must go! I have never seen such a pathetic excuse for a ref. He is the best player on any team playing against the Lakers. I don’t expect any ref to get all the calls, but Joey, how come calls you make always play a significant roll in deciding a game involving the Lakers? Tonight it was the phantom Artest on Durant with less than 2 minutes remaining. You didn’t make the call on the other end when Collison was hanging on Gasol, THAT’S WHY HE COULDN’T JUMP! Joey Crawford must go!

How can Kobe or Pau or any other Laker drive to the whole and never gets any contact? Joey Crawford must go!

I'm sure the Lakers will man up and admit they really let this one go at the end of the third quarter, but still Joey Crawford must go!

Maybe I’ve lost all objectivity, but Joey Crawford still must go!

French Fries Lead to…Global Warming

According to the Associated Press a senior Iranian cleric says women who wear immodest clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes.  Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi (Tehran’s acting Friday prayer leader) explained it like this, “Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes.”

You know, when no one can say, “What?! That was stupid!” Stupid things are often said. By applying the same logical formula as our Iranian bother we might postulate, “Many people eat at McDonalds and enjoy French fries, leading to a bit of gas 20 minutes later, which (consequently) leads to global warming.” (Wait; didn’t Al Gore already say that?) Yep, that was stupid!

What I find equally disturbing is that President Obama believes he can sit down and have a reasonable and rational dialogue with these people. If, like me, you have ever had the pleasure of experiencing a “discussion” with people like our prayer leader, then you know that a reasonable and rational discussion is out of the question.

Dear, President Obama: Walk softly and carry a big stick. Make sure to make your big stick easily visible to all friends and foes.

I also find it interesting that men are apparently absolved of any responsibility. How different are we in the West? (More to come, in the future on how I feel about the image of men as complete idiots by the media.)

Well, I better quit while I only this far behind. Keep the faith.

Obama Stimulus Did Not Help Me

Once again big government got it wrong. Once again, big government helped big business but not me.

I am not surprised, angry, but not surprised. I mean why would anyone think that giving banks crap loads of money was smart? What kind of naïve adult with a supposed sense of history thought the banks would just give the money to people? As my pre-teen daughter would say, “Seriously?”

My grandparents bought their house in 1928. The crash hit and the great depression began. Everybody (literally) on the block lost their homes.. The banks were left holding all the homes. What did the banks do? The banks couldn’t hold onto the homes so they sold people the house across the street at prices they could afford. Grandma told me they actually first bought the home across the street. The market adjusted. The banks made stupid loans. The banks paid the price for their greed and stupidity. My grandparents lived in their home until the late 1980. Grandma sold the house after grandpa died and was able to live comfortably in a nice retirement complex near her church and friends.

The bailout, the Obama stimulus plan is destined to fail and hurt the common man. The banks are proving this as we breathe and daily pay our taxes. The banks are waiting for the market to pick up again so they don’t have to pay the price for their irresponsible choices.

What about those of us who knew we could not afford homes at those prices even if a bank was dishonest and irresponsible enough to give us a loan? My wife and I are still waiting.

The Obama stimulus plan is not helping me. It is stupid and foolishly conceived.

Whether You Want to or Not

A while ago an add ran on television with a certain California politician telling us that same-sex marriage was coming to us whether we liked it or not. I guess we didn’t like it enough that it’s not coming, no matter how self-righteously the same-sex advocates want to inflict it upon the rest of us.

Maybe the majority of people still believe in a traditional marriage and family. I do.

Perhaps the majority of people do not believe that a homosexual is the same as being a male or female, Caucasian, African-American or Asian. I don’t.

Conceivably a great deal of Americans are fed up with political minorities trying to force their will upon the rest of us. I am.

If you’re homosexual, enjoy. Just don’t expect everybody to agree with or support you.

You can’t make us whether you want to or not!

Ra-Ra-Ra, Bla-Bla-Bla

Two points of interest from the California democratic convention:

1) Jerry Brown drew the loudest reaction. I guess that is note-worthy, either because he simply elicited a reaction at all or because the rest of the group is so pathetic that he elicited the loudest reaction.

2) House speaker Nancy Pelosi declared that, “Democrats are for protecting the people’s interests; Republicans are for protecting special interests. Democrats are protecting consumers and small businesses on Main Street; Republicans are protecting big banks on Wall Street.” Again to cheering delegates.

Any politian drawing cheers from the delegates at their convention is like the Lakers drawing cheers from the crowd at Staples center after a slam dunk. Is that a surprise?

If the Dems are for consumers and not for banks why did they give the banks big giant crap loads of dollar bills and none to me? (Banks are businesses not special interest groups.)

I don’t think the Dems are as concerned about protecting my interests as they are about taxing my interest.

If Dems are protecting me as a consumer, how does making me pay more for about everything via taxes help me in financially difficult times?

California! Wake up!! The Democrats are not protecting you they are enslaving you via taxes!!! Vote them out!!!!

Says me.
