Do you listen to your wife?

I have been blessed to be married to a wonderful woman for the  last 17 years. I am still learning how to listen. This is a great video to help all men learn to just listen... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4EDhdAHrOg

MEN WHO ARE AFRAID TO BE MEN on Flush 'em Friday the 5 3 13 Edition

I would like to dedicate this Flush 'em Friday to men who are afraid to be men.

  • If you are passive...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you let someone else make decisions for you...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you never open the door for your wife...you need to be flushed.
  • If think you have no control over yourself...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you refuse to work...you need to be flushed.
  • If you don't have at least one favorite sports team...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you don't know how to at least check the oil in your car...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you cry at the end of a chick flick but not when your favorite sports star retires...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you don't know the difference between right and wrong and are unwilling to least argue about it...you might need to be flushed.
  • If you think you look cool driving a Prius...you might need to be flushed.
  • And last but not least, if you can't laugh at yourself...you really need to be flushed.
Happy Friday and don't forget the plunger.

Homework (Atomic Rooster album)Image via Wikipedia
When I came home from work yesterday my youngest son came up and gave me a hug. Then I kissed my wife and hugged my daughter. After changing and settling down a bit I looked over my son's homework and went over a few things with him. He is in third grade and in math they are reviewing multiplication and division facts. The sad thing is, I have not spent much if any time going over his multiplication facts with him, yet, he pretty much knows them all. He said he did make a times table chart at school once. So, I am happy he is doing well but, sort of embarrassed that I have done so little. Now, my wife does go over his homework before I get home. I guess he has a better memory than mine.

What is good is that I can enjoy some other things with him rather than just going over his homework. I am really thankful that I can come home and enjoy my family. Work has been pretty intense and the stress levels are high, and, I deal with middle school students and their parents on a daily basis, so, enjoying my children makes it all worth it. I hope you are able to enjoy the family and friends given to you.

She's a Keeper!

A little over fifteen years ago, as I was greeting people at my church I saw a beautiful creature walk past me. After a few "coincidental" crossing of our paths, we began to talk, date and the rest is history.

Today, I would just like to let my wife know I love her and I am grateful to be married to her and sharing our lives together.

I was talking to someone the other day about being passionate and opinionated (me) and how at times our conversations can reach def-con levels. But, we've made it 14 years so we must be doing something right. I appreciate that my wife will tell me what she really thinks. Honestly is a bedrock of any relationship. I am in awe of her devotion to and nurturing of our children. They will never say (without being laughed at) that they were not loved.

Most importantly, I believe our shared belief and commitment to follow God gives us the spiritual north star to guide us through out lives. Happy birthday, honey! You're the best!

Men Are Just Happier People

What do you expect from such simple creatures?
Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5000. Tux rental-$100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks.. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.

Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck.

You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.

You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.
No wonder men are happier.

I Got You Babe

I would like to give a "blogout" to my lovely wife!
Thanks for being such a great wife and putting up with me for the last 14 years.
Thanks for being a spectacular mother to our children.

Here's to love that lasts a life time and in the words of Sonny Bono, it's always good to know, "I got you babe."

Thus saith me ;)

Whether You Want to or Not

A while ago an add ran on television with a certain California politician telling us that same-sex marriage was coming to us whether we liked it or not. I guess we didn’t like it enough that it’s not coming, no matter how self-righteously the same-sex advocates want to inflict it upon the rest of us.

Maybe the majority of people still believe in a traditional marriage and family. I do.

Perhaps the majority of people do not believe that a homosexual is the same as being a male or female, Caucasian, African-American or Asian. I don’t.

Conceivably a great deal of Americans are fed up with political minorities trying to force their will upon the rest of us. I am.

If you’re homosexual, enjoy. Just don’t expect everybody to agree with or support you.

You can’t make us whether you want to or not!

Thus saith me.
