No Tax Tuesday: Tired of Taxes 5 10 11 Edition

Happy Meal HummerImage by gadgetdude via Flickr
Happy No Tax Tuesday! My original No Tax Tuesday post centered around the idea that citizens need a break from the burden of taxation for at least one day if not monthly. As inflation causes the price of everything in my life to rise, from food to fuel, Happy Meals to Health Care, I can not afford to pay higher taxes just so the idiots who represent me at every level of government do not have to make the tough decisions and cuts where truly needed. I am tired of taxes!

Think about this: if you live in California the Governor is asking you to vote to lower your standard of living while not requiring him to make the tough cuts he said he would make. More taxes would not result in a better run government, just more government to collect the taxes! I am tired of taxes!

President Obama bragged while campaigning for President that if he was President he would lower the price of gasoline! I believe it is a bit higher, now. He could lower or remove the federal tax on gasoline ($0.18 a gallon). Didn't he appoint a task force or some other time wasting useless group of leaches?  Another pile from the President. I am tired of taxes!

We pay taxes to fund the impotent yet misguiding Department of Education. Has it ever helped? I am tired of taxes!

Do you hear me? Do you agree with me? Are you tired of taxes?

No Tax Tuesday: Where have all the tax dollars gone? 3 8 11

A large pot hole on Second Avenue in the East ...Image via Wikipedia
Happy No Tax Tuesday. Today I ask the question: Where have all the tax dollars gone?

In California, Jerry Brown is weaseling his way around setting up his only known means of financial management. He WILL ask Californians to pay more taxes. My question is for what? To pay for a bloated government that can't even complete a budget on time when their lives depend upon it? Gracious, pero no.

Tonight I will make my annual trip to my tax man. He is actually awesome. It just reminds me that I send money to Washington who packages it ( for a cost) and send some of it back to my state which sends some of it back to my city. Less for more.

Gas prices are skyrocketing. Nearly half the cost of a gallon of gas is taxes. Well, straight out of my driveway and all the way to work I will negotiate pot holes the size of some of those tiny little Match Box cars some clowns are driving. (If you own one, nothing personal, just making a goofy point.)  Where is the money for road work going?

What about education? I am one of a few teachers who are conservative politically. Even the most liberal of my colleagues complains about the waste and pet projects. Our school has a "district pool teacher". Do we need one? No.

No Tax Tuesday question of the day: Where have all the tax dollars gone?

No Tax Tuesday: Do Taxes Help?

Gasoline taxesImage by vhhammer via Flickr
It is No Tax Tuesday and today I ask the question, "Do taxes help?" A very simple question.

Let's take gasoline taxes as an example. In California I pay almost $0.64 per gallon of taxes. So, if I put 10 gallons of gasoline in my car that is about $6.40. Many commuters easily do that once a week. We are talking about $25.00 a month in taxes for one driver. Los Angeles easily has 100,000 commuters. Let's do the math. $25.00 X 100,000 = $2,500,000.00! That's probably only a drop of the gasoline taxes Los Angeles citizens pay !

If we pay so much in taxes why are the roads full of pot holes? Why is traffic so bad? Where is all that money going? I repeat my question: Do taxes help? As I understand it, cities have to maintain their own roads. I think the state and federal government is supposed to reallocate funds to states and cities. So, we get to lobby for access to the funds our tax dollars produce. Of course, some feel that they should decide how these funds should be redistributed.  But, money stays in government off the roads.

My feeling is that for the amount of money I pay for just the gasoline tax I do not receive a fair return on my dollar. The roads are full of potholes. The CHP and local police have to chase lunatics on high speed chases who after doing great bodily harm and crashing into other cars want to sue the law enforcement agencies for use of excessive force and self-serving special interest groups will gladly help in order that they might leach off society too.

In short, taxes are not really helpful.

NoTax Tuesday: They tax My Coffee, They Tax My Tea...

Description: Coffee cortado (An latte art exam...Image via Wikipedia
They tax my coffee
They tax my tea
They tax my baby
They tax me.
I make, they take.

They say my money is their to take
To redistribute for those they hate.
"Let's tax the wealthy!" they always say,
But it's my money that doesn't stay.

Giving money to banks to play
To car makers not intending to pay.
The goods and services are green they say,
Which means more money I will pay,
for goods and services
that do not last a day.

Ah, enough of the bashing you will say,
Listen to the President, to what he say.
"Have hope, my dope, it will be OK,
'Cuz I'm the President, that's what I say!"

So, they'll tax my coffe
They'll tax my tea
They'll tax my baby
And they'll tax me.
I'll vote in November
and any time between
To rid this country of this vile scene.

No Tax Tuesday!

ReadMySignImage by Seven_Null7 via Flickr
How about a No Tax Tuesday, once a month?
Consumers don't pay taxes on purchases.
Businesses don't pay taxes on sales.
Employees don't have to pay income tax, State or Federal!
For one Tuesday a month you keep what you earn!

How about a visit to the gasoline pump? Nationwide we pay about 62 cents per gallon (cpg)of taxes. If you buy 10 gallon of gas that's about $6.20. In California it is more like 63.9 cents per gallon or $6.40. My family owns two vehicles and it takes more like 30 gallons to fill up which means about $20.00 in taxes. No Tax Tuesday means I pay about $20 less.

Now, I have two school aged children and it's back to school shopping time. Here in the formerly great state of California we pay 9.75% sales tax. So, for every $100 I actually only buy $90.25 of clothes. Spending $400 is not that hard for back to school stuff. The breakdown on $400 is $39 for the government and $361 for my children.

Now, if No Tax Tuesday includes my income for that day...well now we're talking. If I was only in the 25% tax bracket (state and federal) that would be $25 for every $100 dollars earned. If I make $200 a day that's $50.

So, if I save $20 on gas, $39 on clothes, and $50 on taxes that comes out to $109. Now, I can do a lot more for my family with that money than the government waste plans can do.

What about you? What do you think about a NO TAX TUESDAY?
