No Tax Tuesday 7 19 11 Edition

Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)Image via Wikipedia
Happy No Tax Tuesday. I hope you all are enjoying your summer with your families.  Summer soccer is talking up most of our summer nights with two children playing on two different teams. The real trick is trying to feed the family on nights like these without eating out all the time. Which leads me to my No Tax Tuesday rant for the week.

I am an average man making average money with an average family. How do taxes affect me and my family? First of all they don't help. Paying nearly 10% on just McDonald's for a family of four can be $2.00 a meal. If your family has to do the fast food boogie two or three times a week that can be $6.00 to $10.00 a week easily! $24 to $40 a month is an extra meal for the family! So, via our taxes we sacrifice a meal out a month for the government. What do we get out of that sacrifice? Where I live we get bad roads, bad traffic and schools where the teachers think they are good because I (we) tutor my (our) children to make up for what they are not getting at school.

Now, when my two oldest children try to get into college, I (according to the government) make to much money and we don't have a last name that will allow us to benefit from any of the "investments" in our government we have made up to this time. To go along with that the cost for attending ANY college or university from a city college to a major UC is rising as I blog, making a college education either just for the wealthy or those whom some liberal elitist feels is more deserving! To demonstrate the foolishness of the system allow me to share a personal experience. I have a friend who just happens to be of a "minority" decent. He works for the same "company" as I do. We have the same pay scale. But, because his children are who they are, they get some help with their SAT scores. In other words, my children have to score a few hundred points higher than his solely because of their color and race. They also get special status as in easy entrance. Fair? My tax dollars at work.

My point? Where are the tax dollars going? Who or what are they benefiting?

How useless does Ted think you are?

Last night as I was watching the late night news an alarming report caught my attention.  It seems Ted Lieu, California State Assemblyman, is proposing a law that would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to use a tanning salon.

Really.
No, I'm not lying. Ted Lieu who easily won his seat in the last election, wants to protect people under the age of 18 from the dangers of the tanning salon.

I will at this point let it be know that I did not vote for Ted Lieu.

Don't drink, drive, tan or run with those who do. I guess that's Ted's philosophy. That's the liberal agenda. No salt, no Happy meals, and no tanning. Ted seems to think that I, as a parent, can not make informed decisions with my children's best interest in mind. This is a perfect example of where liberal ideology links to socialism with an all-powerful state and ruling class acting as big brother. The liberal argument, under the guise of "well don't you think (fill in the blank) is bad for people?" is how the liberals take away freedom of choice, something they claim to champion.

Now, I try to  monitor my salt intake, I don't let my children live off of Happy Meals, I don't smoke, and I have never used a tanning salon. But, if I want some more salt, if my I want to rip through  McD's and grab a few Happy Meals, if I want to light up a victory cigar, or if I ever get the hankering to look like a piece of toast, that is MY choice and MY business,NOT Ted Lieu's and NOT the governments.

And by-the-way, why is Ted Lieu wasting time on tanning salons when his state needs jobs?

Like Taking Toys From Babies

In Santa Clara County, California, “officials” voted to ban restaurants from giving away toys with kids’ meals. The associated press says, “The ordinance is largely symbolic as it would only cover unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County, meaning only about a dozen fast-food outlets and several other family-owned restaurants would be affected.”

Leave it to meddlesome politicians to not only try to infringe on personal freedoms but to do it in a less than affective manner.

What ever happened to personal responsibility? Who does not know how to make a choice for themselves? Are we ignorant serfs needed the guidance and protection of the magistrate? If a 13 year old girl is deemed responsible enough to choose to have sex and then an abortion, isn’t an adult of any age responsible enough to choose what they can eat?

I believe people of all genders, races and ethnicities are intelligent enough to make choices for themselves. We are not ignorant.

More government means less freedom and choice.

I choose freedom and responsibility.

Thus saith me.
