No Tax Tuesday and Chocolate the 8 30 11 Edition

Yesterday I went by Ralphs to pick up few items to go with the pizza I was going to barbecue. In the line at the checkout I noticed some Twix and the sign said "Buy 2 get 1 free". Good deal. You know that candy, even chocolate, is taxed because it is not really food. I like chocolate. But, my wife and daughter sometime crave chocolate and they have to have it.  Chocolate is at times, a need, so I believe it should not be taxed.

Now, here is my beef with taxing chocolate as if it was not a necessity. If your a married man you know that sometimes your wife needs chocolate. Maybe like me it happens after you eat dinner. You get comfortable on the couch, turn on the TV, and your wife says, "I could really use some chocolate." You try to ignore her. "Honey, don't you want some chocolate?" You might reply, "No, I'm good, thanks." A few moments quickly pass. "Honey, I really want some chocolate." Fellas, you know how this goes. Luckily for me there is a 7-11 and a Rite-Aid within a block from where we live.

Now, let me ask you this (I know that sounds Southern). At that moment isn't chocolate a need? If I want to enjoy the rest of my evening in peace you are darn right I need to go get it for my wife! Now, as a life bonus my wonderful daughter is getting to be the age where she "wants" chocolate too. So now at times I have my wife and my daughter in need of chocolate. "Daddy, can you go get some chocolate ice cream?" I need to a have a stash someplace...

My point is that for me to have two happy women in my home, I need some chocolate, so therefore chocolate is a necessity. Since it is a necessity it should not be taxed. This No Tax Tuesday is a call for no taxes on chocolate because sometimes you just got to have some chocolate.
