Flush 'em Friday 2 18 11 Edition

Well, it's Flush 'em Friday!

This week I'd like to flush middle managers who like to dump tasks on others and call themselves delegators right down the old porcelain thrown. Especially those who announce the transfer of responsibility with the question, "Why isn't this getting done?" or "Why didn't you do this job that was never assigned to you?"

California Governor Jerry Brown and the voters who placed him in office need to be flushed. His clueless and meaningless attempts at fixing things are all just a prelude to asking the working people of California to pay more taxes for the rest of their lives. Taxes to fund crap not pay off debt. What did Forest Gumps mother say? "Stupid is as stupid does."

TV sitcom writers because they can't come up with anything besides lewd sexual references.

The Disney channel because it is just a 24 hour commercial.

Who would you like to see Flushed on Friday?

Flush 'em Friday 1 21 11 Edition

It is time for another edition of "Flush 'em Friday!" The following represent a random list of people or things I fell should be flushed down, around and/or out of wherever they are and whatever they doing.

• California Governor Jerry Brown for even thinking about let alone mentioning more taxes.
• Drivers who don't use their blinkers at all or wait until AFTER they have turned or changed lanes. This includes the group of drivers who stick their arm out of their window, point and turn without looking.
• Gavin Newsome for being Gavin Newsome whether I like it or not.
• Supervisors who dump crap on others and call it delegating, and then tell you it needs to be done by this afternoon before you leave which is long after they leave.
• Drivers who take up two spaces when parking either because they believe their car is worth it,and/or because they just seem destitute of any car parking skills.
• ObamaCare because it is just a government cluster#$#*% of mismanagement via government agencies, cronies and basic knuckleheads. Forcing anyone to purchase something is a minus in the freedom column  no matter how "progressive" you try to paint it.
• Representative Jane Harman for voting against the repeal of the job killing health care bill. She should go see what has happened to the hundreds and thousands of people in her district who have lost their jobs and find out where the jobs went. 
• Community Organizers for being the paid henchman of unions and the left.

Dumping vs. Delegating

There is a fine line between dumping and delegating. I work with an administrator who fancies himself a great delegator.This past year I have worked with him more closely and have been the recipient of said delegation more than once and I felt more like a victim than a co-worker.

After being left holding the bag and wondering what was in it, I started wondering why this administrator believes he such a whiz at delegation. Which led me to the question of what is the difference between delegation and dumping? I think that when it is just a pile, it's dumping. When it is without direction it is dumping. For example, I was at my desk, just in from another daily project that is time based. In walks said administrator, drops off a problem and leaves. The problem must be dealt with immediately because it is alive, a human being. Since, I must do something I ask the problem what the problem is, knowing this problem won't tell me what the real problem is because that would probably be self incrimination. So, I end up wasting about 45 minutes trying to find accomplices and witnesses while the problem is seated, unproductive. In the meantime, all attempts to reach the dumper for clarification are fruitless because he has more important things to do and is not answering phone calls. That is an example of a dump, not a delegation.

When a good administrator passes something on they empower the recipient with the needed information and direction. Sometimes co-planning is needed where clearly defined goals are set. People who dump do just the opposite by not planning and having unclear goals and thus confusion and irresponsibility on their part. When the inevitable failures occurs the dumper blames the dumpie and deflects all responsibility to the dumpie.  Dumpers are experts at not taking responsibility for failures and blaming others.

Now, my next question is: how do I avoid being the dump site?
