"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
John Wooden

Time to go, Mr. President.
OK, it's time to get out of Afghanistan. Gallant effort, but it's not a place to wage a ground war. The country ate up the Soviet Union, now it's eating us up. I do think it may have been the right thing to do to try to focus on Afghanistan, but, it is the graveyard of nations isn't it? Maybe a different tactic, like covert operations. Small groups that go in take a few shots and get out, take them at their own game.
One thing I notice, or don't notice: I don't see the constant coverage of the numbers of American soldiers dying like I did during the Bush Presidency. Coverage followed by news footage of groups against the President. Yet, American soldiers are dying in Afghanistan.
So, will the President save face or save lives?
Thus asks me.

Lakers vs Celtics
Let's get ready to rumble! Let's get it on! Let the games begin! However you want to say it, it's time. Tonight the Lakers begin the best of seven series for the NBA Championships! This promises to be a great showdown between the last to NBA champions. Purple and gold vs. green and white. The Bean-town brawlers vs. the Showtime Lakers.
My heart says the Lakers in 6, but my head says the Lakers in 7. The deciding factor is Kobe Bryant. He has been able to will his team to victory. The rest of the Lakers are falling in line and ready to go. The Celtics are falling in line with his grit and growl. But, his will to win is not the same as Kobe's and only Kobe scares the snot out of coaches and opposing players at the end of a game.
Some may say two years ago...well, that was two years ago and the team had not quite gelled. Now Pau is tougher and battle tested. HE wants to make amends for the loss. Lamar is focused and his candy is stocked. Farmer has his chip properly placed on his shoulder to prove HE should be the starting point guard. Bynum just needs to puts his hands up and make them shoot over or around him. Phil's put out his salvo of head game chatter. We're ready to go!
Go Lakers!

Clean Up Your Own Mess
Didn't Granny used to always say, "Clean up your own mess!" For that matter, Dad, Gramps, Mom, and every other adult when we were kids. What do I say to my kids? "Clean up your own mess!" I guess this is why I'm not sure why there is any confusion on who's responsibility it is to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. BP, also known as British Petroleum, made the mess, now they get to clean it up. If any government, the United States or Mexico helps, then British Patroleum should reimburse them fully.
I'll say this right now, I am not a big fan of President Obama, but his only job is to protect the United States from any adverse affects of the oil spill. Not to do the clean up for British Petroleum. The President needs to ensure that the people who made the mess clean up the mess. If he fails to do that, then he fails. Which I am seeing him do a lot. He did make a speech about it. He did take "responsibility" for making sure that everything is done to shut the spill down. What does that mean? How is HE going to taking responsibility? What is he doing? Maybe he needs a vacation to clear his head and think about it. Hopefully it is not the same plan he had for the banks! Oh no, get ready America, your tax dollars at work, bailing out people he campaigns against.
British Petroleum, which already sucked England dry of all natural resources, needs to clean up their own mess and the President of the United States needs to make them do it now or clean it up and send them the bill and maybe suspend any activities for them until the spill is dealt with.

48 out of 51
My local fish wrap presented the evidence of my inner convictions. GMAC Insurance made public that California was 48th out of 50 states plus the District of Columbia on a test of 20 multiple choice questions. I’m just surprised that we weren’t dead last.
The kicker in the whole deal is that my insurance is higher because I’m driving with idiots.
